Friends of the Tompkins County Library
Local non-profit seeking to increase book sales...
Client and Background information:
Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library is a local non-profit, that holds a semi-annual Booksale. They hold the sale both in the fall and spring, benefiting the Tompkins County Library and the Finger Lakes Library System. Friends’ mission is to promote literacy in Tompkins County. Their goal is to offer a diverse selection of books, audio books, CDs, DVDs, records, puzzles, and games to benefit the local community.
BRC Project:
BR Consulting partnered with Friends’ to analyze ways to improve their revenue looking for opportunities in their semi-annual book sale, in addition to exploring new sales channels and enhancing existing non-sale revenue opportunities. The key issue for the client is that customer purchasing trends had shifted, causing a decline in revenues. Thus, the questions our client wished to have analyzed were:
-
How can Friend’s maximize their true revenue potential?
-
What other sales channel opportunities exist for the organization?
Project Results:
We provided recommendations to optimize pricing and increase volume, while also generating strategies for alternative revenue sources—such as increased online sales and an improved membership value proposition.
“Would you please pass along to the entire BR team the thanks of the Friends of the Library for all your hard work on our behalf. You were all a pleasure to work with: fun, creative, smart, and enthusiastic; all of us who worked with you enjoyed our interactions tremendously. And we feel that you provided important insights and solutions that will help our business in both the short and long term. I hope that we’ll see you down at Esty Street again, as part of a future BR team or just as very welcome visitors.”
